how may we design fun, functional, and beautiful children’s furniture
curiosity
why do we perceive kids as messy and lazy? do kids actually hate cleaning ?
most adults perceive kids as lazy and messy, but that is far from the truth. kids want to help and spend time with their parents. through research, i found that kids who model parent’s behavior, are given positive reinforcement, and are encouraged to help based on physical capabilities develop a healthy relationship with cleaning and shared spaces overall.

to better understand the target consumer, i created a user persona of the ideal customer. i also created a 2x2 matrix to analyze the market opportunity of tooble

creative strategy
as i did research, i also experimented with abstract form exploration, which allowed me to think freely before applying research insights to my designs.
form exploration
the abstract models served to come up with the initial idea for my project, that i then further developed with sketches. the half-size prototype was good to identify the weak points, mainly the base design and the pivot angle.

material exploration
for tooble, i wanted materials that were sustainable, easy to clean, and simple.
cork
cork is a renewable, sustainable material that is naturally antimicrobial. cork can be cut, glued, and sanded like wood but without the density and injury potential.
natural wood
wood is a sustainable material that can be sealed with natural coats to increase its durability and reduce porosity.
bio-plastics
new organic-based plastic alternatives that can be thermoformed and processed with traditional machinery methods.
